Students entering the university sign a myriad of documents and acquiesce a number of liberties to university without fully knowing what the university is allowed to do in certain circumstances. I propose creating a Student Bill of Rights outlining university policies, procedures, and what we as students should know.
The Student Bill of Rights would be a comprehensive, yet simplified guide that would answer questions such as "can UPD breathalyze me?" and "when is room susceptible to searches?" In addition, I will fight for student rights in the following areas:
Dining: the Right of Students as Consumers
The past summer Sodexho quickly enacted new and divisive changes this summer when students were off-campus and failed to seek a consensus from the student body. The SA is supposed to be the students’ voice to the university administration. This policy shift did not take into account student concerns.
If elected I will work to achieve the following in regarding to reforming dining at GW:
-Eliminate mandatory spending minimums for J Street
-Secure full operational hours on the weekends
-Replace Sodexho with private vendors.
-Expand the Dining Services Commission, to be co-chaired by an undergraduate and graduate student and to screen vendor requests and make recommendations to the University.
No decisions that dramatically transform a core student service on campus will occur when I am President without input from the student body.
Academics
Establish an online test bank before finals of this semester, and I will end the current rules guarding the hard copies of tests.
Work with the Columbian College to create a functioning website that students can access for information and accessible downloadable forms.
