Though various committees have been tasked with investigating the sustainability of GW, I firmly believe that many decisions can be made that are both cost-effective and environmentally-friendly that do not require semesters, if not months, of negotiating. I will immediately press the University to do the following:
-Turn off the lights of buildings when not in use, such as HellWell at 3am.
-Use recycled paper and ink and thereby reduce printing costs across campus
-Label all recycle bins in all dorms and better facilitate student use of those containers
-Give students green light bulbs on move-in day
-Establish a permanent green cabinet position in the Student Association to continue to work with the University to make immediate changes
-Create eco-friendly compost heaps behind dorms
-Mandate that janitorial crews use ecofriendly cleaners
-Put GW on the track to reduce carbon emissions by at least 2% per year (DC emits as much CO2 as all of Sweden)
-All future building must be "green" and energy efficient and designed to maximize natural sunlight, natural cooling/heating. etc
